About the Item

A Fine Napoléon III Gilt-Bronze Mounted and Sèvres Style Porcelain-Inset Onyx Guéridon. The circular top inset with a large circular porcelain plaque painted with Madame de Pompadour in her study signed '(AM)P. Juéry' within gilt bronze border. On a cylindrical onyx column mounted within three large acanthus scrolls united by floral swags raised on tripartite base with inset guilloche frieze, raised on castors. She was the official chief mistress of King Louis XV from 1745 to 1751. On this table she is surrounded by oval portrait medallions of luminary ladies of the period and members of Louis XV’s circle, including his queen Marie Leszczyńska, the mathematician Émilie du Châtelet, the Marquise de Créquy, Madame de Mouchy, Princess de Lamballe and the king’s last mistress, Madame du Barry.
