French Louis XVI Style Inlaid Carved Walnut
Marble Top Bouillotte Table, 20th c., the oval brass galleried white marble top over a wide skirt with one frieze drawer, on turned tapered legs with ormolu sabots.
A 20th century Louis XVI style bouillotte side table handcrafted of inlaid walnut and having a marble top surrounded by a reticulated gilt brass gallery, this classic French side table features an apron that has one drawer for cards and chips. Raised on tapered fluted legs ending in brass sabots.
Bouillotte tables such as this were inspired by the gambling card game of the same name.
Bouillotte was so popular in France during the 18th century that a special table was created for play. Bouillotte is said to be one of the card games that led to the development of poker.
Like poker, chips were used as wagers during the game.
