Gilt Bronze Mounted Mahogany Round Table by Henry Dasson

About the Item

This circular side table by Henry Dasson is surmounted by an inset marble top, which is bounded by a gilt bronze ring and is set above a mahogany apron. The table stands on three two-column gilt bronze legs, which in turn meet the ground on gilt bronze hoof feet. The three legs are joined by a mahogany stretcher. This type of side table—its form, styling, and particularly its double-column legs—follows Adam Weisweiler. Weisweiler, a French cabinet maker, established the form of the “doubles colonnettes” circular side table, which proved to be exceptionally popular and influential in 19th century France.
