Late 19th Century Pedestal Table

About the Item

Pedestal table or small tripod table from the end of the 19th century, the legs are in carved wood, oak top, wear of time consistent with age and use, piece of great originality. Goes very well with contemporary furniture. There are a large number of tables with different uses under the Louis-Philippe. Anyway, they are often round or oval. Mahogany, elm burl and cherry wood are generally used to make them. Games tables, round or half-moon are fashionable. Many utility tables arrive, such as knitters, serving tables, hairdressers, barbers or even coffee tables. Pedestal tables remain furniture of choice. They have a central foot, in the shape of a bulb or composed of large balusters. This base is divided into three or four richly sculpted feet. They can end in a lion's claw and are almost always mounted on wheels. The top, oval or round, can be scalloped, in wood or in marble. Finally, small pedestal tables have, most of the time, a mobile top that can become vertical and run along the foot. The dining tables are made of mahogany or walnut. Their tray consists of flaps. Their base has four to eight feet, which can be balusters, umbrellas or sheathed and which end in a wheel. It is generally possible to add median extensions.
