About the Item

A rare and absolutely delightful Art Nouveau Parisian cafe counter! circa 1910 Imagine walking the streets of Paris at the peak of its golden age in the early 20th century, surrounded by grand Belle Époque architecture with imposing facades and lavishly decorated interiors, important historical landmarks, the world’s first department store, timeless luxury design houses, prestigious hotels, restaurants, and arguably even more famous and sought out, the iconic Parisian cafés! This exquisite one-of-a-kind masterpiece would have been the first thing to greet a patron, so it was designed to be make a truly memorable and lasting impression. Elegant, sophisticated, and luxuriously, the counter is executed in period Art Nouveau styling, featuring a striking polychrome glazed ceramic tile mounted facade, decorated with brilliant neo-classical inspired floral, garland, and flaming torch motif, rounded brass mounted corners, white carrera marble base molding. Smaller than typical counters to fit in the cozy, intimate cafés, created with industrial functionality in mind, with a white marble top, the open backside having a single mahogany finished drawer over shelved interior. Serving as a meeting place, neighborhood hub, conversation matrix, rendez-vous spot, place to relax, or refuel, cafés offer fine coffee, espresso, a selection of wines, often sourced from local vineyards, an assortment of gourmet pastries, desserts, chocolates, and more, so this counter likely functioned as a charcuterie display table, work island, reception stand, and more.
