Antique Industrial Shop Table Begging to Become a Kitchen Island Original Paint
Located in Chicago, IL
Whoever built this Industrial Work Table, almost begging to become a Kitchen Island, must have known that today’s Kitchen Islands would be 36” high, for that is almost exactly (36.88") what this 100-year-old Industrial Table measures. On top of getting the height spot-on, they had to have known how popular the Gustavian Grey or French Putty Grey would become 100-years later. This is an unrestored Industrial Work Table and because it measures exactly 36.88" high, we're going to guess it is from America. The hand-cut dove tails used to construct the drawers gives it an early 1900’s or possibly a late 1800’s build date. Our inhouse Old Plank workshop thoroughly cleaned the industrial Kitchen Island...

19th Century American Carpenter's Workbench, circa 1880
Located in San Francisco, CA
About Contact us for more shipping options: S16 Home San Francisco. An original Maple carpenter's workbench with large inlay tray used to house larger tools. There are 15 "dogs" spaced along the width of the front. Pegs were placed in the dogs to hold a piece into place while working on it. The bench features two wooden screw vises that work properly and extend out. The piece is structurally sound and has retained the naturally distressed look of an industrial piece of this kind. Creator Unknown. Date of manufacture c.1880-1900. Materials and techniques Maple. Condition Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Refinished in an oil and paste wax. Shellaced. Dimensions H 32.5 in. x D 32.5 in. W 84.5 in. History A workbench is essentially a table fitted with various holding devices, such as benchstops and vises, made sufficiently strong and massive to be used for a variety of woodworking operations. The modern workbench derives from two separate pieces: a table for planing wood and a bench for supporting wood to be sawn. Designs have changed over the centuries, beginning with low Roman planing benches and slowly growing in height to present day hand-high benches, and acquiring different accessories. French benches of the 17th and 18th centuries, for example, depended largely on stops and dogs to hold the workpiece, whereas British and American benches relied more on various vises (which first appeared on medieval German benches...

Fantastic 19th Century Double Butcher Block Kitchen Island from Dijon, France
Located in Dallas, TX
This large double butcher block was hand-crafted in the late 1800’s, by the Xavier Aubert Factory in Dijon, France. A metal plate is affixed to the front façade of the butcher block that reads “Usines X. Aubert materiel & fournitures Dijon”. It has been recently restored and waxed, bringing it back to it’s original color and consistency, all while retaining its character as a heavily used French kitchen work table. Shaped from decades of use in a French boucherie, the top of the block is comprised of three sections of parquetry arranged in an offset checkerboard pattern. A thick frieze, which has also been shaped from repeated use, has polished steel brackets on the corners. The brackets have been stamped “Trussant et Cie” (founded late 19th century), which specializes in materials for supplies in the food trades, such as caterers and butchers. Beneath the frieze are two drawers with round metal pulls. The bottom edge of each drawer has been hand-carved with a scalloped motif. The corners of the frieze have rectangular joints adorned with raised lozenges in the center. There are two more joints in the center of the frieze (one in the front and one in the back) that are embellished with a protruding diamond. Each of these six joints have tapering baluster legs with fluting extending beneath. The dimensions and the weight of the butcher block make this a great item to use in a kitchen. One section of the top has two 16 ¾ inch long cutouts that were once used to hold the butcher’s knives and saws. You could use these slots to hold a linen drapery...
