About the Item
This elegant pedestal, crafted in France circa 1860, exemplifies the refinement of the Napoleon III period. The antique “Selette” is built from richly veined rouge marble with contrasting tones of gray, white, and beige, and stands on a thick square plinth adorned with bronze sabots and a molded edge. The circular column is fitted with an ornate gilt bronze collar embellished with acanthus leaf motifs in high relief, echoed at the base with exuberant foliate scrolls. The top is a square removable marble surface designed to swivel for versatile display.
In excellent condition with a beautifully patinated finish and light surface scratches on the top, this timeless column adds classical presence to any interior. Ideal for displaying a bust, sculpture, or vase of flowers.
