About the Item

Dated to the mid-19th century, this low, terracotta pedestal base from Shanxi province likely originated as a column base or as the display plinth for a large Buddha statue. The round pedestal has an unusual, spool-like shape, with sides that bow inwards for a flared base and top. The minimal form has developed a dark patina with age and adds incredible texture to contemporary interiors.
