Italian 19th Century Octagonal Table with Saint George and the Dragon Marquetry

About the Item

An Italian wooden pedestal side table from the 19th century with octagonal top and marquetry décor depicting Saint George and the Dragon. Created in Italy during the 19th century, this exquisite side table features an octagonal top adorned with a central medallion showcasing a delicate marquetry décor depicting Saint George slaying the dragon. This medallion is surrounded by a series of motifs including a trompe-l'Œil geometric frieze, a thin banding and an octagonal frame with protruding accents. The apron is also decorated but in a more discreet manner, with alternating tones and delicate inlay. The table is raised on a turned pedestal with additional inlay while the ensemble is resting on a tripartite base made of elegant scrolling feet with marquetry décor on their upper edge. With its elegant lines, exquisite marquetry and warm patina, this Italian pedestal side table from the 19th century will be a showstopper in any home, particularly placed in a living room or foyer!
