About The Maker

William Earle

View Profile
People think that William Earle is a big company, but it isn’t. He is a man. For 25 years he has been making furniture.. While so many of his prominent contemporaries sold their brands to corporations with design school grads and overseas factories, he never has. Published in every design magazine and journal, commissioned by the San Francisco Musem of Moder Art, his designs everywhere, from the campuses of Yale, Penn and Harvard, to the floors of Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus, to the lobbies of Trump Tower and the Ritz Carlton, William still works alone. As a young art student, William was taken by the way Manet lived in a simple farmhouse in the woods, and just painted. This became his dream.Today, the “ American Minimalist “, as he was dubbed by Ellen Lupton, curator of the Cooper_Hewitt National Design Museum, lives with his family in northern California, where he works alone in his studio, constructing each of his beautiful sculptures to order, and skinning them in the most lovely hardwood veneers. The pieces are then signed and labeled, documenting the date of production, and the name of the client to whom they are dedicated .
