About the Item

This is an elegant 18th century server from our founder's home, Dixon Smith. She had it in her collection for over 40 years. It’s a refined server, showcasing balance, symmetry, and restrained ornamentation typical of the period. Key Features: Material: Constructed from rich, polished mahogany with beautiful grain patterning, which was prized in fine furniture making of the time. Design: The sideboard features a classic bow-front form with a central drawer flanked by two deep cabinet sections on either side. It stands on slender, tapered legs, adding height and a sense of lightness to the piece. Hardware: Brass oval or rosette drawer pulls and escutcheons add a subtle decorative accent while remaining consistent with the understated elegance of the style. Function: Originally intended for dining rooms, this sideboard would have stored flatware, linens, and serving pieces. Its functional layout makes it suitable today as a buffet, console, or entry table. Style Notes: The piece is strongly aligned with the Hepplewhite school, named after English cabinetmaker George Hepplewhite. Its clean lines, refined proportions, and minimal carving reflect the Neoclassical influences of the late 18th century. This sideboard would complement both traditional interiors and spaces looking to incorporate timeless antiques with historical character. The original bars that would be attached to the top are still available and contained with the center drawer - see video.
