Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Serving Table

About the Item

A Very Good Quality Late 18th Century, George III Period Rectangular Mahogany Serving Table, Or Console Table, Having Well Figured Breakfront Top, Over Frieze Having Attractive Central Set Tablet With Matchstick Fluted Decoration, Raised On Four Elegant Square Tapered Legs Terminating On Original Spade Feet. Throughout the 18th century it was most common to find formal dining rooms with both a large sideboard and also a large serving table in place. They would often have been made in the same workshops and share detailed designs, but of course they were for different purposes. As suggested by the name, a Serving Table was very much designed with the intention of being used to lay food out across and then be used to serve from, whereas a sideboard was of course more designed for storage purposes and this is why often serving tables are a little taller than the average sideboard. This is a lovely example of a serving table. It is a good practical size and is constructed from well figured mahogany timbers. Certainly it is more than fit for its original purpose and function, as well as perhaps allowing flexibility in terms of being able to use it as more of an antique console table with some nice items on top and a lovely mirror or artwork above perhaps. Overall the condition is very, very good. Sturdy and functional and in good clean condition. There are a few old marks and blemishes as one would expect from a practical piece of furniture which has been in use for well over 200 years, but certainly nothing of major concern or alarm. The worst of those blemishes are highlighted in the photos supplied with this listing. As with all items which we offer for sale this Georgian Serving Table has been inspected and attended to in our workshops and received a natural wax polish by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers to ensure it is optimum condition before being placed on sale and it is ready for immediate placemement within the home.
