Late 19th Century French Counter
About the Item
Sourced from a grocers in Brittany, France. This beautifully weathered late 19th Century antique painted shop counter has now been thoughtfully reclaimed for modern day use. We imagine it as a centre piece as it would look striking as a kitchen island but equally you could use it as a sideboard. It has bags of character and rustic charm, the piece retains its original sliding doors with diamond pattern and has ample storage. Once used for storing provisions and weighing scales now suited for cookware or pantry items. The aged paintwork with the time-worn patina tells the story of decades of daily use.
Perfect as it is but has potential to have a replacement top for contemporary practicality and also to make a bigger island that you can sit at. We love the contrast of a new top with such a fun, authentic and useful base.
Made from pine with plenty of knocks and scrapes but in general, very good, sturdy and practical condition with ever useful sliding doors.
A unique and practical addition to both country-style and contemporary interiors alike.
