About the Item

Leva 50 - Table by Alva Design Materials: Painted Metal, Stainless Steel Dimensions: 60 x 50 x 32 cm ALVA is a furniture and objects design office, formed by brothers Susana Bastos, artist and designer, and Marcelo Alvarenga, architect. Their projects are the result of the meeting of these two visions, the architectural and the artistic, and beyond the usual rationality and functionality, they seek the unusual, new uses and an expressive materiality. The duo's creation process starts from a sensitive observation of people's daily lives, their habits and current needs, together with a perception of new potentialities to be artistically explored. In the development of each piece, the technical and aesthetic baggage of the brothers, acquired through important experiences in the architecture and fashion market, is added to a strong relationship with their Minas Gerais and Brazilian origins. In the execution phase, the selection of raw materials and the exquisite manufacturing, often handcrafted, give a unique aspect to the works. The result is contemporary pieces loaded with memory. Alva's first line of furniture and objects was launched in 2013 at the MADE (Mercado, Arte, Design) fair in São Paulo. Following this launch, the firm partnered with Etel - a brand now known worldwide for publishing the best of Brazilian design - to produce and market some of its creations, bringing the brothers' names into the special group of authorial designers represented by it. Since their first release, Susana and Marcelo's creations have gained visibility in several important publications, websites and magazines, both national and international.

Piece a Tabula 'Non' Rasa Table by Studio Traccia
Located in Geneve, CH
Piece A TABULA [non] RASA Table by Studio Traccia Dimensions: W 80 x D 80 x H 74 cm Materials: Steel. Different combinations are available The table was designed for our installation called tabula[non]rasa developed for Milan Design Week 2021, with the intent of materializing the potential of circularity through the lens of food waste. It is realized in recycled steel and a special table top material made of food scraps. The material of the table top was developed by MOGU, using a bio-based resin and low-value biomass, such as corn crops, rice straw, spent coffee grounds, waste algae and shells. The design of the table was conceived within the idea of working on modularity while yet shaping something elegant, playful and able to generate unexpected interactions. The pieces can be assembled all together to form a large leaf-shaped table, or can be arranged in creative combinations, to suit different needs, to display objects in a shop, for an exhibition or in a house. The whole table tells a story of circularity: innovative materials crafted into beautiful objects describe a new possible paradigm where resources are not depleted, but reinvested into a new metabolic loops. A new materialism that invents new narratives and form the common ground of our renewed relationships with the planet. And even more than that, a table of discussion that makes visible, the invisible flows of waste, not in a condescending way but with a positive proposal where different and circular logics are actually possible. Studio Traccia is a Milan based studio, founded in 2020 by Claudia Orsetti and Luigi Olivieri. Both have worked for over 10 years around the world, between Tokyo, London, Berlin and Amsterdam, gaining different experiences in a series of international studios such as SANAA, Heatherwick Studio, Tomas Saraceno...
