French Napoleon III period drop-side table, late 19th c., having shaped burlwood top with floral marquetry and inlaid instrument motifs, with two folding sides, rising on fluted and tapered stretcher-joined legs, ending on arrow feet, closed: approximately 28"h, 28"w, 20"d, open: approximately 28"h, 41"w, 20"d.

The top priority of Napoleon III style furniture was comfort. However, the furniture remained highly decorative. This attention to form, as well as function, can be seen in intricately upholstered chairs with tassels, fringes, and luxurious fabrics.
