18th Century Very Unusual Baroque Kistbord

About the Item

Very unusual baroque kistbord. A kistbord is a chest (kista) that has been made in such a way so that it can be used as a table (bord). These are very unusual objects and not many were made. That makes them exceedingly hard to find, not to mentioned finding them in good condition and in this quality. This baroque folk art kistbord was used as a work table and has a single door at the front. It is decorated with hand carved ornaments true to the baroque style. All four corners are accentuated with hand carved and painted panels, almost giving the appearance of spirals. The condition is completely original and untouched, the paint is original as well. The paint is naturally distressed after 300 years of use. The handles and hinges are hand wrought in iron. Both sides have traces of decorative paint, most likely bouquets which was a very popular motive during this period. The top has some minor loss of material in the right back corner – see pictures. The width and depth measurements are based on the table top. Made in northern Sweden.
