19th Century Italian Giltwood and Marble Top Occasional Table
About the Item
A good centre table in the Italian impero manner
Constructed in carved gold leaf giltwood, and having a St Jean brecciated marble top; of circular form, the tripartite base of canine legs terminating in hoofed feet, being dressed with satyr masks issuing arabesques, with a circular undertier serving as a stretcher, and over, winged female sphinxes supporting the apron, which is dressed with boldly carved swags of fruit and equidistant paterae; over, the shaped marble top has a thumbnail moulded edge.
