2 Wooden Nightstands SC 50 Mod. by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani 60's, Italy
About the Item
The SC50 nightstands by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani are a significant example of Italian design from the 1960s, a decade marked by clean lines, functionality, and refined aesthetic sensibility. This specific model is part of a collection that represents an important moment in the history of interior design.
Claudio Salocchi and His Style:
Claudio Salocchi was one of the most appreciated designers of the era, known for his ability to combine innovation with the elegance typical of the period. His work for Sormani, an Italian brand that produced iconic design pieces, helped define the character of mid-century Italian design.
His approach was based on simple, functional forms that were always elegant and harmonious. Like many other Italian designers of the time, Salocchi sought to merge aesthetics with practicality, creating pieces that were suitable for everyday life while also holding artistic value.
The Design of the SC50 Nightstands:
The SC50 nightstands fully reflect these design characteristics. Here are some key features:
Materials and Finishes:
The SC50 nightstands are typically made from fine woods such as walnut or teak, which were common materials of the time and contribute warmth and refinement to the space. The finish is carefully crafted with smooth surfaces and minimal yet elegant details.
Shape and Functionality:
These nightstands are characterized by an essential yet perfectly balanced form. The design is simple, with clean geometric lines, but still very refined. Rounded corners and a solid structure give them a contemporary appearance while maintaining a strong connection to the historical period in which they were produced.
Dimensions:
Like most furniture from the 1960s, the SC50 nightstands are relatively compact and functional, designed to fit smaller spaces without sacrificing practicality. The arrangement of drawers is designed to optimize space, with discreet handles and a design that emphasizes everyday use.
Minimalist Aesthetic:
The design reflects the minimalist language of the period, with few decorative elements and a clear focus on essentials. The combination of simple lines and the use of fine woods results in a piece that is elegant yet unadorned.
Sormani's Production:
Salocchi's collaboration with Sormani led to the creation of numerous iconic pieces of furniture. Sormani was a company that distinguished itself through the quality of its production and its careful design research. The furniture produced by Sormani in the 1960s is still highly regarded today for its craftsmanship and timeless design.
Value and Collectibility:
Today, SC50 nightstands by Salocchi for Sormani are highly sought after by design collectors as they represent an excellent example of 1960s Italian design. Their understated elegance, quality materials, and intelligent blend of functionality and aesthetics make them prized pieces, both for vintage furniture enthusiasts and for those looking for timeless design solutions.
In summary, the SC50 nightstands are an icon of 1960s design, a perfect balance of beauty and functionality, and an example of Claudio Salocchi's creative genius within the context of Sormani's furniture production.
