About the Item
Art Deco vintage side table from walnut Wiener Möbel Viennese Living in the cercle of Josef Frank attributed to Walter Sobotka circa 1928 Vienna.
The handmade and high quality side table shows a gorgeous base with three curved legs and a round ball connection from solid walnut, which holds the walnut stellar veneered top.
Throughout the shellac polished treatment by hand the stunning warmth and depth is visible in walnut brown color tone.

Walter Sobotka ( 1888 - 1972 ) Architect and Designer
Walter Sobotka was a representative from the Zweiten Wiener Moderne, who was settled in the social environment of Adolf Loos, Oskar Strnad and especially Josef Frank.
Walter Sobotka was connected with Josef Frank through their intellectual fellowship and friendship.
This design style was influenced from the deep rooted cultural background and the openness to the contemporary modernism.
Walter Sobotka designed a duplex for the Werkbundsiedlung, 1130 Wien, Veitingergasse. ( It was destroyed during the 2nd world war. )
Also he absolved many exhibitions and significant interiors.
During the pre time of the Second world war he emigrated to United States, co worked with Thonet and gave many presentations at universities.
