About the Maker

Jake Whillans Studio

Jake Whillans Studio creates objects that enhance the relation between individuals and the environments in which they dwell. Our work is inspired by historical narrative and craft tradition with a specific focus on functional furniture. As a craft-based studio practice our pieces are assembled on a made-to-order basis. As such, customization and client driven options are always within the realm of possibility. We believe that the products we send out into the world should outlive us, cycles of trend + fashion and provide emotional and physical comfort for generations to come. Our materials are sourced through a network of sustainable vendors within a 500 mile radius of where we work and are chosen for their suitability, durability, and presence. With a sincere devotion to IAQ and environmental health, our finishes are limited to zero-VOC products and applied with as little intervention as possible in order to celebrate the unique richness of patina and wear - inimitable signs of life. This dialogue between past & present, form and matter - or things of the earth - reaffirms our ability as human beings to create meaning that is adaptable, hopeful, functional and beautiful. The objects that we create are a reflection of our belief in the restorative power of nature and the transformative influence of skilled artistry. We encourage you to contact us here with any questions regarding our work or practice as a whole!
