About the Item

Chris Maher is a visual artist and furniture designer who specializes in creating original one of a kind pieces that are both contemporary and timeless. He began his career as a sculptor, receiving a Master of Fine Arts from Towson University in Baltimore. Chris experimented with mixed media, studying classic stone carving techniques in Fiesole, Italy, and he became an expert metal fabricator while building intricate large scale figurative sculpture. His mastery of metal fabrication led to a successful career in architectural design, catering to some of New York’s top architecture firms. This work inspired Chris to begin designing and building his own line of furnishings. Hence, the birth of CMD. Chris Maher Design’s mission is to create furniture using simple, clean lines to enhance the beauty of the raw material. The company is committed to sustainability, and believes in utilizing both reclaimed and domestic hardwoods. All the work is hand made by the artist and every design is small batch or one of a kind. In addition to the line of bespoke furnishings, CMD is also available for design services catering to home, retail and hospitality including design consultation, retail fixtures, custom fabrication and installation.
