A striking example of late 20th-century American studio furniture, this sculptural freeform bronze side table evokes the distinctive aesthetics of the iconic designs by Karl Springer and Silas Seandel. Handcrafted circa 1980s, the piece is fabricated from thick, solid bronze sheet, carefully shaped into an organic, undulating form associated with the freeform coffee tables and side tables of this period.
The expertly executed welds and sharply defined edges give the piece a clean architectural presence, while the substantial use of bronze reflects the craftsmanship typical of collectible studio metalwork from the era.
Measuring 140 cm wide, 104 cm deep, and standing at 65 cm high, the table is well-proportioned for use as a sculptural side table, end table, or occasional table, while its bold silhouette allows it to serve equally as a statement piece within a living space or design collection.
The bronze surface has developed a natural patina, along with several marks from oxidation, following the loss of its original clear lacquer. Surface wear and scratching are present, along with a localized area of discoloration likely caused by acetone contact. A minor fissure, approximately 1 cm in length, is visible at one welded joint. These are superficial and do not compromise the structural integrity of the piece, which remains solid and robust. The table would respond well to professional repolishing should one wish to restore its original high-gloss, mirror-polished bronze finish.
