About the Item

Circa 1840 large scale lap desk writing box on custom stand, English. Mahogany with the finest brass bindings and inlaid tracery with arrow and dart details, cartouche escutcheon and engraving medallion; reading rails and fully fitted interior (lacks candlesticks). Of such high quality weight timbers that it requires 2 adjustable supports for use when reading. Baized writing surface. Monogram “CM” oval beneath a regal Stag. Recessed carrying handles; drawer lower left side. Custom side or coffee table height stand. Condition commensurate with age and use. Box: 22″ x 11.38″ x 8″ h.
