About the Item

An Amsterdam School solid oak small side table or pedestal from around 1920, Netherlands. In near perfect condition, with perfect proportions and an artistic design - very possibly by one of the Dutch Art Deco interior architects. The table could serve as a plant table but also perfect to display a small work of art on, for instance a glass or ceramic object. This piece is in very good condition, heavier than one would expect and very sturdy and stable. ''Amsterdam School'' is a collective name for the exuberant, imaginative and innovative design style from the period 1910-1930 by a diverse group of Dutch architects, interior designers and sculptors. Influential architects and designers included, amongst others, Michel De Klerk, Hildo Krop, Piet Kramer en J.M. van der Meij. Amsterdam School architects designed a lot of exteriors and interiors in Amsterdam, but the style spreaded further all around the Netherlands. The Hague has its own variant, called The Hague School.
