About the Item

An original 1920s Dutch Art Deco pedestal, in good lightly restored condition. It is very stable and sturdy. A rare find and a very eye catching accent piece in eclectic and interesting interiors. Ideal to place a statue or a plant on, but also great on its own. While most furniture like this was made of oak, this one is in elm with a lovely woodgrain. The design is characteristic for the Dutch Art Deco period and Dutch modernism, with clean and clear cut lines and the cascading shape of the base of the table. It is reminiscent of designs by P.E.L. Izeren for the Genneper Molen. Pictures taken in natural light and sunlight, to give a good idea of colour and condition. In the 1920s, a style of architecture and furniture design emerged that would become known as The Hague School. More sober than the imaginative Amsterdam School and more elegant and luxurious than De Stijl, this style is also called Dutch Art Deco. After the First World War, young designers such as Izeren, Wouda, and Alons and developed their own modern interior designs. They chose the work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright as their mailsource of inspiration. The result was the now well-known Dutch modernism/ Haagse School style with its straight and cubist shapes.
