Dutch Art Deco square occasional table attributed to L.O.V. Oosterbeek, 1920s

About the Item

A two tiered side table or occasional table, 1920s, with a modernist design, attributed to L.O.V. Oosterbeek. The piece is made of oak, and has black stained slats as modernist detail around the tabletop and blackened feet. The table is in very good lightly restored condition. It is very stable and sturdy. The table was most probably made by L.O.V. Oosterbeek but it is not marked. The design is very characteristic of L.O.V. pieces, with the clean lines, sober appearance, quality of craftmanship and subtle details. Pictures all taken in natural light and sunlight, to give a good idea of colour and condition. In the 1920s, a style of architecture and furniture design emerged that would become known as The Hague School. More sober than the imaginative Amsterdam School and more elegant and luxurious than De Stijl, this style is also called Dutch Art Deco. After the First World War, young designers such as Izeren, Wouda, and Alons and developed their own modern interior designs. They chose the work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright as their mailsource of inspiration. The result was the now well-known Dutch modernism/ Haagse School style with its straight and cubist shapes.
