About the Item
This elegant center table is a classic Chinese incense stand, formed of mortise-and-tenon joinery with a round top, waisted apron and five curved legs that arch towards a circular floor stretcher. A traditional form used to elevate incense burners in the middle of a room, so as to better disperse the aroma, these round pedestals were intended to be seen from all sides. As a result, these tables are designed with balanced forms and graceful, flowing lines from any angle. This fine example is minimally decorated save for its dark brown finish, finely beaded edge and the subtle flourish at the end of each leg. Today, this refined incense stand is a beautiful way to elevate a sculpture, houseplant or floral arrangement.
