About the Item
This significant table is rectangular-shaped with a serpentine front and cabriole legs terminating in gilt bronze sabots. A gilt bronze rim frames the top, which is inlaid with a marquetry chinoiserie scene depicting pavilions, bridges, figures, and foliage against a rosewood ground. The front comprises three drawers, each outlined with boxwood stringing and inlaid with floral and foliate marquetry panels, incorporating various light and dark woods to create contrast. The sides display further marquetry panels featuring pagodas, palm-like trees, and birds in flight. The lower tier is fitted with an additional shaped shelf, also inlaid with chinoiserie marquetry scenes of pavilions, gondola-style boats, and landscape elements, framed by a narrow border.
