French 18th Century Louis XVI Period Mahogany and Ormolu Side Table / Desk
About the Item
An elegant and very high quality French 18th century Louis XVI period Mahogany and ormolu side table/desk. The two drawer rectangular table with a pull out is raised by slender circular tapered fluted legs with their original ormolu casters. The straight apron displays a recessed design and a pullout at the front with ormolu pulls and its original gold tooled leather writing surface and with a drawer at each side decorated with fine ormolu keyhole escutcheons. Above is the French polished top showcasing the beautiful Mahogany wood grain framed within a striking richly chased mottled wrap around foliate ormolu band in a superb satin and burnished finish.

The desk is raised by elegant circular tapered fluted legs with fine fitted ormolu sabots and richly chased fitted foliate chandelles. Above each leg are lovely fluted block reserves with additional finely detailed fitted chandelles. The scalloped shaped apron displays three drawers, each decorated with most attractive ormolu keyhole escutcheons.
