A French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, Maple and Amarante side table
About the Item
An striking French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, Maple and Amarante desk/side table. The rectangular one drawer table is raised by four square tapered legs decorated with twisted ribbon ormolu chutes at each corner ending with wrap around acanthus leaf designed sabots and top Coeur de Rai square bands. At the apron is a central drawer with three recessed panels and an ormolu keyhole escutcheon with a top bow above two branches of berried laurel leaves. The two outer smaller panels are decorated in the same manner with a central circular ormolu handle. Both sides are decorated the similar recessed panels. The top is inlaid with an elegant parquetry of Amarante veneer with diagonal Maple inlays and surrounded by an outer Mahogany border. The top is finished with an attractive mottled ormolu gallery.
