About the Item

An exquisite French 19th century Transitional st. Mahogany, Kingwood, and ormolu side table. The two tiered kidney shaped table is raised by delicately scrolled legs with richly chased ormolu paw shaped feet and a charming tapered chute leading to beautiful foliate corner mounts. The legs are connected by a bottom tier with a most decorative and wonderfully executed diamond shaped parquetry design framed within a finely fluted wrap around gallery. Four straight fluted columns lead upwards with lovely fitted foliate chutes below charming richly chased ormolu mounts of intricately detailed luxuriant blooming flowers tied with a ribbon. The frieze displays one drawer with a central ormolu keyhole escutcheon set on a recessed mahogany background framed within a fine mottled and beaded wrap around ormolu band while the curved sides and back are decorated in the same manner. The top also displays a superb masterfully executed inlaid diamond parquetry design framed within an elegant pierced ormolu gallery. All original gilt throughout.
