French 19th Century Transitional St. Kingwood, Fruitwood and Ormolu Side Table

About the Item

A charming French 19th century Transitional st. kingwood, fruitwood and ormolu oval side table. The table is raised by elegant cabriole legs with fine fitted wrap around foliate ormolu sabots. The legs are joined by a bottom tier with a beautiful inlaid scene of a heron. The gorgeous bird stands with a worm in its mouth and at the edge of a lake with charming water flora. A striking pierced ormolu gallery frames the scene and follows the shape of the bottom tier. At the center are three drawers, each decorated with finely inlaid flowers and ormolu keyhole escutcheons. At each side and at the back are additional intricately inlaid scenes with trees, bird houses and bridges. The top is inlaid with an additional finely detailed and very charming scene of a boat in a lovely canal amidst a path leading to a house. An additional pierced ormolu gallery extends along the edge of the top and frames the stunning inlaid scene.
