Fungus Side Table by David Valner Dimensions: D 39 x W 56 x H 59 cm. Materials: Handcrafted glass, metal, granite, and polyurethane foam. Weight: 24 kg. “The fungi kingdom, an infinite source of the novel and the unexpected” Glass tables in diverse organic shapes follow the objects in the Fungus and Polypore series. Inspired by the heterogeneous world of fungi and molds, the tables’ colors and shapes reference notoriously known forest mushrooms and single-cell fungal microorganisms inspected through a microscope. The key glass components that define the visual experience are hand-shaped, created with a traditional technique that allows for two or more colors to create a continuous transition. The steel structure likewise echoes the world of nature and, just like the glass, takes a rounded organic form. The table tops come in two variants to choose from, either stone or glass. The fungus table is the moment when you enter the woods and breathe in the kingdom of fungi. With all the novelty and the unexpected in shapes and color combinations, it is an incessant source of visual inspiration. There is so much still to discover and the tables are therefore just the beginning, the first step in the series of glass furniture that we will present in the future. David Valner Studio is a collective of artists, designers, and artisans: a family anchored in the values of creativity, craftiness, and utmost respect for glass as an infinitely inspirational material. Designer and CEO David Valner, his partner, photographer, and marketer Tereza Valnerová, his father Aleš Valner, founder and owner of Valner Glass Production glassworks, and a team of expert glass makers, colleagues and supporters. David Valner *1990, based in Olomouc, Czech Republic Founder and owner of Valner Studio, David Valner has a background in glass design, sculpture, fine arts, and interactive media. His professional profile extends from interactive objects and videos reflecting the cycle of society’s relation to mass production and the beauty and absurdity of the ordinary, to sculpture, and glass designing, the latest being his predominant focus in recent years. David has grown up in a glassmaker family, amid a swarm of traditional artisans-glass lovers, feeling and watching the physical and metaphorical fire of creation. At the center of his current approach to glass stands respect for the material as an originally free and fluid mass. Endlessly inspired by nature, he creates collections of objects in which each item is an original and defects are embraced as deeply meaningful and inspirational testimonies to artisan glass making as opposed to mass production.
