George II Carved Mahogany Marble-Topped Side Table, English, circa 1750

This is from the Thomas Devenish collection (documented below; see provenance). This top of the line side table represents the "creme de la creme" of Georgian craftsmanship. Highly decorated and finely carved mahogany Georgian side table with a "verde antico" marble top; a Greek key ornament decorates the top rectangular freeze, with a pierced and carved apron dominated by acanthus leaves center piece fronting the grandiose side table. The cabriole legs are further hand carved in acanthus leaf scroll, and foliate decor ending in four heavily carved "hairy paw" feet (see images). Of English maker, circa 1750, the table is well made and in excellent condition with original finish. Substantial and sturdy table with outstanding intricate carving; this table has the following dimensions: 54 1/2" wide x 35 1/4" high x 27" deep. Side table has wonderful provenance and lineage (see below). Provenance: Lot #45 Sotheby's New York April 24, 2008 "Tom Devenish: The Collection" Sale "Highy Important English Furniture". Frank partridge as attested by the original attached oval label on the underneath "Frank Partridge /Works of Art/ King Street, St. James Street/ And New York" (see image).
