About the Item
Gogol is a sculpture, a small bench and a coffee table, all at the same time. This piece, available in a limited edition of 8 and in 4 artist's proofs, is made from Sapelli, an exotic reddish-brown heartwood native to West and Central Africa and a choice material in cabinet making and fine carpentry. The solid wood sculpture is hand-sanded and finished with a layer of eco-friendly Rubio Monocoat hardwax oil.
Gogol is the first utilitarian artwork created by Marcelo Martin Burgos. With its four feet aligned and facing in the same direction, this new piece fully reflects his visual universe, blending humor, pop culture and the world of childhood. As evidenced in his series of polished bronze sculptures entitled “Monsters” and highly acclaimed by art collectors, the artist draws his inspiration from the fantastical creatures that inhabit children's stories, fairy tales and dreams.
Each copy is numbered. The number appears at the bottom of the work (see photo) along with the artist's monogram. A certificate of authenticity is also provided to the purchaser.
Marcelo Martin Burgos (born in La Plata, Argentina in 1971) lives and works in Buenos Aires and Madrid. He has been practicing sculpture for over thirty years, while also pursuing a career as a filmmaker.

Marcelo Martin Burgos
Marcelo Martin Burgos lives and works between Buenos Aires and Madrid. The artist’s golden bronze sculptures are anchored in the childhood universe he is fascinated about. Monsters, dragons, robots and other creatures populating childish imagination are the main subjects of his sculpture activity, also fed by the cinematic production he practices in parallel. Bronze, that he appreciates for its versatility and golden finish, allows him to create mirror-like sculptures that reflect the childhood images and memories of those who look at them. “My work is deeply connected to childhood and gold is a way to exalting children creativity. Childhood memories are golden.’’

Materials: Oak, cement, recycled paper, glue, paint.

The visual inspiration for the bench is a combination of natural wood and concrete. These two opposite materials combined, create a unique character of the product that has the coldness of concrete and the coziness of wood.
The tabletop is made of natural oak, and the base of the table, resembling concrete in appearance, is made by pouring solid mass. The set task was technologically challenging - it was necessary to fuse wet mass and moisture-sensitive wood. The entire structure of the table is manufactured at the same time, so that the two materials join together smoothly and precisely to avoid any gaps. After the product dries, it is scrubbed, and the tabletop is oiled.
The black concrete-like material is the result of various experiments. It is a mixture of several components: an eco-friendly of cement, recycled paper, glue, and paint. Dried it becomes as strong as wood, it resembles concrete but is slightly elastic, so it does not split or crumble. The result is a natural texture and strength that ensures durability.
