About the Item

A most decorative Italian 19th century neo-classical st. ormolu side table, after a model by François Briot's, Temperantia, Temperance Dish. The table is raised by three scrolled supports with beautiful hoof feet and foliate designs. The central support displays fluted and reeded designs while above are beautiful draped chains. The most decorative and richly chased Bas-Relief top, modeled after Briot's Dish, showcasing richly chased maidens and figures amidst stunning foliate designs and intricate movements. At the center is the beautiful maiden with the inscription TEMPE RANTIA flanked by detailed depiction's of the four elements; Wind ( Mercury), Water (Thétys), Fire (Mars) and Earth (Demeter). The original Temperantia is currently displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY.
