About the Item

This robust coffee table was made in Italy in the 1960s. The striking table frame made of black lacquered aluminium is a sturdy base for the heavy stone top. Two brass struts connect the tapered table legs to form an X-shaped frame. The onyx stone top rounds off the overall appearance with the colour interplay of the brass with natural, soft cream and sand colours. The possibility to disassemble the table makes transport very easy and uncomplicated. Do not hesitate to contact us for further details.

Mid-Century Modern Melchiorre Bega Side Table
Located in Dallas, TX
Mid-Century modern Melchiorre Bega side table with a carrera marble top, laquered wood pedestal and a three spoke base in brass. Italy. 20th Century. Melchiorre Bega (1898-1976) was trained as an architect and later became a designer. He is known for his well-detailed functionalist, modern designs. Bega rejected the Art Deco style that prevailed during this time. He believed that many small elements would make a perfect whole, his style can therefore be seen as a graceful functionalism. For this reason, Bega worked with specialized craftsmen only. His style developed from the needs of human beings. In his early career, he focused on the renovation of old buildings. From 1923 onwards, Bega designed and co-managed a production factory that was founded by his father Vittorio around 1900. During the beginning of the 1940s Bega was the editor of the famous Domus magazine. Later in life he was the architect of many grand projects such as the Axel Springer...
