Japanese Wooden block table /wabi-sabi coffee table/1900s〜
About the Item
About
This table was made from a mortar that was used to pound rice cakes in ancient times.
The mortar made from Zelkova wood is very heavy and sturdy.
Rather than being shaped like a typical mortar, this unusual mortar has a rounded cavity resembling a flower vase, with a wooden top embedded into the cavity.
The black color of the tabletop has a glossy black hue similar to lacquer and a hairline finish.
The surface of the mortar has changed over the years and appears to be chipped and not uniform, but it is not rotten and the material can still be used without any problems.
