About the Item

This late 18th/early 19th century American tilt-top table is a graceful survivor of early American furniture, crafted from solid mahogany with a round top made from a single board—an increasingly rare and telling sign of age and quality. The top is edged with a simple beaded rim and retains its original tilt-top mechanism and hand-wrought iron locking latch, allowing it to fold upright and tuck against the wall, just as it was intended to do two centuries ago. A turned pedestal supports three elegantly arched cabriole legs that end in narrow pad feet, giving the piece a quiet, sculptural presence. The mahogany has developed a deep, mellow patina that only time can create. Once used for tea service or cards, it's perfectly scaled today as a side table next to your favorite armchair or a petite nightstand in a guest room. Honest, unfussy, and beautifully made—American furniture at its best.
