About the Item

Kristall by Michele De Lucchi is an eccentric service table with its vaguely zoomorphic look, like a head, a body and paws. It takes its cue from the excursion module of the Apollo XI mission: it seems to be poised to land on the moon, inside your living room. Coffee table made of lacquered wood and covered with decorative laminate, painted metal elements. Instantly recognizable memphis: here comes the ‚kristall‘ side table by michele de lucchi. Designed in 1981 for the inaugural first collection of famous ‚memphis milano‘, this object combines all the ingredients: flashy colours and vibrant pattern, low-end materials, simple construction – and an impressive novel shape for a side table. The double-decker design allows for a book or magazin on the lower level while holding your glass of some colourful cocktail on the round table top. It is used on the base beneath its bright yellow lacquered tabletop, allowing a space between for books and magazines. Its anthropomorphic appearance was a much-repeated motif for De Lucchi during his early years with the collective. Would be incredible in a child's room too!! Michele De Lucchi studied architecture in Florence and while still a student founded the ‚Gruppo Cavart‘ in Padua, which advocated radical design. In the mid 1970s he taught industrial design at the University of Florence and became one of Ettore Sottsass‘ closest collaborators and friends.
