About the Item
This refined pair of mid-century French side tables is attributed to Maison Jansen and exemplifies the firm’s sophisticated blend of classicism and modern restraint. Crafted circa 1950–1960, each table measures 17 inches wide by 14 inches deep and stands 24.5 inches high. The polished brass frames feature fluted legs and squared corners, echoing Louis XVI and Louis Philippe influences favored by the atelier.
The tops and lower shelves are inset with smoked glass panels, bordered by reverse-painted black églomisé-style detailing, adding subtle contrast and depth. Lavish in material yet pared down in silhouette, these versatile tables are ideal as end tables, nightstands, or drink stands, effortlessly fitting into both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Excellent vintage condition, with light surface wear and patina to the brass consistent with age.
Founded in Paris in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen, Maison Jansen became the first truly international interior decoration firm. Renowned for its work with European aristocracy, Middle Eastern royalty, and American elites, Jansen was celebrated for combining historic French styles with modern sensibilities. The firm’s work ranged from lavishly gilt Louis XV pieces to sleek metallic-forward designs, making it a tastemaker in both classical revival and 20th-century glamour. Jansen’s enduring legacy is reflected in the quiet opulence and design pedigree of this elegant pair.
