About the Item

Pedestal table or side table with fixed brass top and elegant wooden base in a stylized form of gazelle legs. The English table from the 1920s in a golden brass is chiseled and hammered by hand with calligraphy cartridges, stars, leaves and beautiful elements will bring a sophisticated touch in your moorish - Spanish decor or Moroccan style interiors. Pierre Berger and Yves Saint-Laurent liked accumulating and collecting special pieces in Marrakech during the swinging sixties and decorated their house by the talented Bill Willis who was an Orientalist in the tradition of Clairin, he appropriated an aesthetic language, then reinvented a new vision with all the Maroccan crafts and creates a very contemporary style and feel. In the field of art, the term orientalism has been used to designate the works of Western artists who had traveled to West Asia and produced works on oriental subjects inspired by their travels. Orientalist travelers European artists and furniture designers were inspired by the Moorish style, Islamic art and Arabic, Middle Eastern, Egyptian, Syrian, Indian, Ottoman, Persian and Moorish, Ottoman, Mamluk-inspired influences. or Damascene .... The universal exhibitions which take place in the second half of the 19th century reinforce this artistic current. The taste for orientalism still present in oriental architectural motifs, furniture, decorative arts and textiles, more and more sought after by a European elite. Supporters of the aesthetic movement in Great Britain (1860-1880), who collectively advocated an aesthetic of beauty in itself and valued form over the content of art, were particularly inspired by oriental interiors. This taste is illustrated in the Arab Hall (1877-1879) in the London house of the artist Frédéric Leighton (1830-1896): sparkling with mosaic tiles from Leighton's travels in the East, it served as a gathering place for like-minded esthetes.

Exceptional Gaston Poisson & Robert Pansart Cabinet Lacquered Mahogany, Art Deco
By Atelier Pansart, Gaston Poisson
Located in Paris, France
This splendid and rare large furniture piece includes three doors with engraved signed keys from the artist Gaston Poisson, “GP”. This circa 1937 cabinet is made of green lacquered* mahogany and contains 12 interior shelves (three doors each with 4 shelves), each shelf featuring beautiful marquetry detail. The centerpiece of this beautiful cabinet is the large exterior mirror by Robert Pansart. This is made of "églomisé" glass with a polychrome geometric ribbon-like decor. Églomisé glass is a technique used often for mirrors that creates intricate decoration using golden leaves and silver. *THE LACQUER IS NOT ORIGINAL, THE CABINET HAS BEEN REFINISHED LATE 20 CENTURY Gaston Poisson, a cabinetmaker from Lille, France, is a renowned Renaissance designer best known for his modernist work. He has a unique taste for pure clean lines, mostly from the 1950s-1960s, which is exemplified in this particular piece. The square and diagonal motifs visible on the facade of the cabinet as well as the ornate marquetry on the interior shelves show that this piece was highly specialized, a well thought out piece made with incredible care. Robert Pansart is a French glassmaker and decorator who specialized in his unique technique of etching and oxidizing with “églomisé” glass. One of the most highly regarded glassmakers of his time, he mainly worked from post war years to the 1960s, and his work is reminiscent of a world based on fairy tales – evocative of the 1940s-1950s taste. His mirrors tend to appear in the antique art market and are valued as highly collectible pieces. Pansart mirrors were auctioned at very high prices at auctions at Artcurial and other major auction houses (see the last picture) Different works of the artist: Berliz Cinema in Paris Municipal Theater of Poitiers (see last picture) Theater of the Paquebot France

Authentic Pair French Armchair, Louis XVI Period, 1775-1790
Located in Paris, France
These authentic Louis XVI period armchairs, original and authentic, seduced me by their modernity. Very rare with their original cream lacquer, flat and square back "à la Reine", with their strict armrests and highly visible assembly, straight legs turned into quivers in the shape of a column tapered down and fluted. The foot ends in a dice that rests on the ground, while the top is cubic is decorated with a circular molding pattern quite rare contrary to the rosette pattern often used for copies - The queen chairs have perfect proportions in their elegant silhouette. In general, I am only interested in design and contemporary pieces, but in the course of my peregrinations I sometimes come across pieces that do not leave me indifferent. As for the lyres chairs, the baccarat chandelier and the large golden mirror...
