About the Item

A very charming and original Queen Anne period solid oak supper table of small and elegant proportions. The two drop leaves and original drawer with engraved and cast brass handle over finely ringed and bulb and baluster turned legs conjoined by very sturdy stretchers. The table sits down well, it has developed a slight smile to the three top boards which only centuries of expansion and contraction of such old oak can produce. It remains level and flat enough for use and the slight wibble to the top is most attractive and shows off the patina. The colour of the oak is excellent, the richness of the patination is delightful and the table retains all of its original timbers and also its original iron hinges and hardware. The small completely original oak lined drawer with its tiny hand cast brass drop handle and embossed backplate is exquisite. Despite its small size this is a useable and useful table, very heavy indeed for its size, sits firm and level and is the perfect supper table for two or four. With the leaves down the table will fit into the smallest space and yet will always catch the eye for its colour, character and great age. A few small and professional restorations, some knocks and losses to the tips of the feet, a couple of very old and long since dead worm holes. Acquired from the estate of the Oz Magazine billionaire Felix Dennis this would have been purchased in the 1980s/1990s from a reputable BADA dealer and the purchase prices was a considerably higher sum at that time. Guaranteed to please and provide excellent service for centuries to come. Dimensions are: 28.5 inches high, 30.25 inches deep, 11.4 inches wide with both leaves down, 29.5 inches wide with both leaves extended. 27.25 inches from floor to underside of the top and the internal (usable) dimensions of the drawer are 2.5 inches high, 4.5 inches wide and 12.5 inches long.
