About the Item

A versatile pair of Italian tables that can be used inside or outdoors, this pair of cast iron tables with carrara marble tops dates to circa 1900. The beautiful marble tops are 7/8 inches thick with a smooth finish, allowing the gray veining to stand out from the white statuario-grade stone. Each marble is supported by detailed bases that include a foliate rinceau apron with a center floret on each side. Beneath the apron is a pair of legs with wide, arching feet, comprised by an arabesque of grape clusters with parted leaves, S-scrolls, volutes, and curled leaves, dotted with additional florets. The edges are also embellished with roundels, giving depth to the slender legs. A high-arching stretcher consisting of two cylinders of iron connects the legs to each other. The bases have a wonderful dark brown patination with areas that have oxidized, offering a stark contrast to the milky tops. Our cast iron and carrara marble tables can be used as patio or garden furniture but could also be used as side tables or consoles inside, such as in an entryway, living room, or hall.
