About the Item

A pair of delicate and unique French neoclassical style side tables in the manner of Adam Weisweiler. Each table features a circular top with a dark marble inset, framed by a gilt bronze molded rim. The top is supported by three pairs of slender columns in gilt bronze, modeled in imitation of bamboo, giving the structure both vertical emphasis and decorative detailing. These columns are arranged in triplets, rising from the corners of the lower tier and uniting at the circular top. The lower tier is shaped in a concave triangular form with rounded edges, veneered in richly figured wood and further enriched with gilt bronze borders. The veneer displays a lively patterning in the grain, contrasting with the polished gilt mounts. The tier serves as both a structural support and a decorative base element, linking the upper marble top to the three legs below. Each leg is slightly splayed, tapering downward, and finished with gilt bronze sabots. The combination of materials—marble, gilt bronze, and fine wood veneer—alongside the bamboo-form supports and neoclassical arrangement, aligns these tables with the refined style of Adam Weisweiler, one of the most renowned French ébénistes of the late 18th century. The structural emphasis on gilt mounts and fine veneers is consistent with his documented work, as is the use of strong geometric forms softened by elaborate detailing. These tables stand as a well-executed example of neoclassical decorative furniture, blending ornamental mounts with functional construction.
