Pair of Side Tables with Enameled Lavic Stone Tops in the Style of Jean Jaffeux

About the Item

Pair of side or coffee tables in enameled lavic stone in the style of Jean Jaffeux with whimsical decorations in shades of brown and beige. The table top is sitting on a wrought iron white lacquered base with organic shapes, recalling Art Deco lines. Sourced in France, 1960s. Jean Jaffeux, a self-taught artist, drew inspiration from his father’s paintings, engravings, and illustrations when he created his first canvas at the age of 15. He tried his hand at drawing, especially advertising and illustration, just like his father. His interest in this technique as a decorative painter, under the guidance of Jean Borel, another well-known enameller from Auvergne, began after he had a meeting with the director of the Atelier de lave émaillée in Mozac, Puy de Dôme. Later on, he launched his own company. Jean Jaffeux is an adept of the single piece, produced in a single firing. In France, he is the lava enameller with the largest number of enamelled lava pieces.
