Texture: Artfully hand-worked, slightly rough texture with multi-tonal layers of black Material: Cementitious resin composite, glass fibre, safe synthetic pigments Weight: tbd Description: Brutal Scandinavian minimalism takes on aesthetic principles of classical antiquity at the hand of sculptor Laurie Poast of Norway. With spheres and curves and angles and proportions, chaos is put into order; unformed elements become form; and discordant things are arranged into mathematical and aesthetic harmony. The result is a sort of wabi sabi geometry in a Japandi style collection of furniture. This side table is made after my original Pottus, a small 4-leg pot-bellied vessel I made in 2016. While its predecessor (the original 10 cm Pottus) was drawn in SolidWorks and 3D printed, this large version was constructed manually with handwritten formulas scratched on paper and pieces of styrofoam cut with knives and saws. Quadaxial glass fibre and a composite of cement and resin was built up in several layers to form a strong, substantial piece that functions as furniture. It’s an impressive piece with a weight and construction that is substantial enough to feel like a solid, quality piece of furniture, but lightweight enough to handle and to live with. This table was exhibited at Maison et Objet Paris in September 2022. Bespoke options are available. This piece could also be built with a smooth surface, with shorter or longer legs, or with several centimeters in variation in overall dimensions. It can be built at your specified seating height to function as a stool and in a range of vibrant or earthen colours. It can also be made especially for outdoor use.
