About the Item

Extraordinary and multi purpose antique table. This amazing quality and excellent condition table must have been made by one of Britain's top furniture makers, but we cannot find a maker's mark. This mahogany table would only have been made for the very well to do in the early 1800s, because it would have been used in a large and custom made bedroom. The handcrafted, stunning and excellent condition brass casters make it possible to roll the base of this table under your bed. The top with the reading stands adjusted to the correct height would then be slid to the side and to the extent that you would need to be able to comfortably read in bed (as shown in images 10 and 11). When not used as a reading table, we are certain that it would have been placed against the wall where it would be the perfect side table. And that is another quality of this rare table, because you can use it for all kinds of purposes. Apart from being highly practical and of great quality it also is of immense aesthetic beauty and it has been for almost two centuries already. This adjustable in height and width, mahogany table stands on its original and perfect brass wheels and it will never fail to impress.
