Sculpted Side Table, Human Element III, Collin Velkoff

About the Item

Human element, Excavation III, 2017 Granite and gypsum cement Measures: 25 x 21 x 75 cm. Edition - Unique work ‘Human Element’ is a project that explores the influence material has on the human condition and how our consciousness is derived from our relationship with materials. By using cement and anchoring forms to stone, he wants to create a sense of familiarity and comfort. Through the manipulation of form, balance, and texture, Collin Townsend Velkoff wants his sculptures to convey a feeling of unease and tension which communicates our relationship with materials and our dependency on the environment. For these sculptures, he has developed a sand casting technique that allows him to cast unique cement forms onto organic stone forms buried beneath the sand. After the cement cures the two materials are locked together and the object is then dug out by hand. Stones are selected from nature and construction sites, these stones dictate the shape, color, and forms on the cement pieces that will cast onto the stones. Each piece is unique. Side Table Pierre Chareau
By Pierre Chareau
Located in CA, CA
Stunning table after Pierre Chareau originally designed for the Club-House of the Beauvallon Golf Hôtel in 1928 . The table has a wooden top, supported by a riveted steel base. Completed in 1928, the Club-House of the Beauvallon Golf Hôtel represented the first major commission for Pierre Chareau in collaboration with the Dutch architect Bernard Bijvoet. The white-painted cement-rendered club-house was an asymmetric structure executed in the prevailing Modernist style, and comprised of a kitchen, a bar-dining area, and an open terrace. With the exception of fully-upholstered seating that was reserved for use in the interior, the majority of furnishings expressed Chareau's creative interest in the use of steel and iron for furniture manufacture. These included a variety of occasional tables and iron-framed chairs with woven cane seats, designed for use on the open terrace. This commission was amongst the first to illustrate the intensive working relationship between Pierre Chareau and the metal-worker with whom he exclusively collaborated, Louis Dalbet. In good original condition, some shrinkage to the circular top. Literature: p.92 Pierre Chareau Designer and Architect published by Taschen Provenance: from the collection of Marion Lambert...
