The wood is finished with a hand rubbed, low V.O.C., natural plant oils to bring the stunning grain to life. The macrocarpa wood will continue to dry out as it finds its equilibrium moisture content of its new environment. Further movement and splits should be expected, and this is part of the wabi-sabi design of the Gallery side tables. The Emerge side table is a modern organic form made from ancient matai trees (a native timber of New Zealand) that have fallen naturally into rivers and preserved for hundreds of years under sediment layers before natural water erosion exposes them. We rescue these trees from the river and continue their journey to become a cherished piece of functional art. This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, has been carbon dated at over 1500 years old.
